JIM EGLI PILOTS THE JECO MOTORSPORTS FIGURE-8 CAR TO A STRONG FINISH DURING THE CNS "AUTO TRADER 150" EVENT Denver, CO (June 3, 2006) By Rachel Dickinson The night of racing started strong for the Jim Egli driven, JECO MotorSports Figure-8, and carried that momentum throughout the evenings events. In Figure-8 divisions qualifying efforts during Colorado National Speedway’s “Auto Trader 150” event night, the # 08 of Jim Egli was just one spot shy behind Joe Matlock of setting the evenings quick time. Competing in the second of two Figure-8 B-mains for the evening, Egli started mid-pack while front row sitters Mike Wolfe Jr. and Phil Taylor led the field to the green. A first lap altercation between John Johnson and Randy Grubb gave Dave Smith the lead and advanced Nick Martinez and Jim Egli’s positions. Smith was doled out a 2 position penalty by track officials. The checkered flag at the end of this 10-lap B-main saw Nick Martinez taking the win followed closely in second by Jim Egli, then Smith, Taylor, and Johnson. The fearless Figure-8 division lined up as the first Feature Event of the night. Stephen Webb and Dave Smith started the division’s race from the front row. Cautions during the event included debri from Joe Martinez’ car on lap five after a nasty hit in the “X” with Stephen Webb and a broken rear end by top contender Al Duran a lap later. The restart consisted of Joe Matlock and Jim Egli leading the field. That duo would continue to hold first and second positions until another lengthy and hard “X” shot between Mike Wolfe Sr. and Bruce Borchardt on lap 11. Matlock would continue to hold off the challenges of Egli to the checkered flag of the 20 lap event. Matlock would take over the points lead by the evenings end, and Jim Egli’s strong finish moved him up several positions in the points, just outside the top 10. www.jecomotorsports.com For Complete Event Night Info.
